This Sunday, rock with Riverkids!

About two months ago, Arthur Ong from Propaganda Machine offered to organise a concert for us. First he had to explain what hardcore is to Dale, whose musical tastes sadly stopped after *nsync, but once we realised it would be local teenagers, we were in!

Teenagers are the most vulnerable kids we work with. They're moody, headstrong, passionate and stubborn, and they often make the worst choices, fuelled by pressure from families and friends.

But they have so much potential and given encouragement and a chance, most of them take that energy and succeed. Our Get Ready programme will see another 15 teenage girls graduate end of June and head back to high school and new jobs.

In Singapore, teenagers have been energetic volunteers, making up for experience with enthusiasm and
empathy with Cambodian teenagers in the slums.

So this weekend, grab some friends and head down to the Arts House (Parliment Lane), upstairs to the Playden and you'll find great music and great people.

Because of the huge hassles with getting permits for a charitable fundraiser for a group working outside of Singapore (another blog post soon!), all the door charges will cover costs, and we'll be raising funds through merchandise sales.

You can wander in and out as there are a lot of bands (playing for free! thank you to everyone who donated time and work). Johnny Shameless and his minions, Overthrown, Bloody Rejects, The Jabs, Comrade, Global Chaos, Force Vomit, Duxton Plains, Forive, Por Vida, Ossuary, Tender Preys (from Thailand!) and Decent Child.

Sunday, 20 April, 2pm onwards. Tickets are S$8 at the door.

P.S. I am told hardcore and the other music played is not emo, but um sort of not metal either. It's sort of straightedge? Or punk. One of those. All I know is people dance hard to it (but it's not house!)
