Computer classes start

Riverkids recently began offering daily computer classes to the students in the Get Ready Girls program as well as some grade school students. The classes are currently taught by volunteers from England and cover typing and other basic computer skills. During the computer time, the students also use language software to study English. This supplements their regular English lessons, which are also led by the volunteers.

The language software is an important resource for the Riverkids’ students who are learning English, as it gives them the ability to practice the language and hear the correct pronunciation of English words, even native English speaking volunteers are not available .

Most poor children in Cambodia receive very little exposure to computers and as a result are never introduced to the educational opportunities offered by technology. Riverkids is now able to give kids from the slums the same chance to benefit from computer assisted learning as their more privileged peers.
