Riverkids celebrated Khmer New Year

In April it is free time for Khmer people to celebrate Khmer New Year which is held from 14-16 April every year. It is quite hot; however people are still excited to join the New Year Celebrations. From the Government Departments, Private companies and schools - all celebrate Khmer New Year.
What did we do for Riverkids? We had something special for the Kids as well. We received $50 dollars from Dale to purchase new T- shirts with the words Riverkids Foundation and its website address for 25 kids during Khmer New Year. We also received another $50 from Dale for special meals for the kids, Riverkids staff and some distinguished friends of Riverkids.

On 11th April, we organized a small party for the kids. Riverkids House was decorated with colorful balloons and a sign of Happy New Year. The Housemother cooked very delicious curry with bread and Cambodian noodles and some cokes for the kids.
Diana, Alan and Sophon, his daughter, Sotheavy and his son, Sothearoth arrived at Riverkids House around 08h00a.m when all of the kids, the teacher and the housemother had been waiting for us.
At the beginning of the celebration, Sotheavy organized some games for the kids with small gifts for the winners.
Sothearoth also brought his Piano to play music for the kids. He played some simple music which the kids used to enjoy so they could sing follow the music. They made the atmosphere of Riverkids House became very interesting and exciting.
At 10 h 30 am the kids sit both sites of the tables with new brown T-Shirt having meals. When they were so busy with food, Sothearoth was playing music for them.
At 11h30 all the kids with New T-Shirt and smiles returned home for Khmer New Year holidays from 12-18 April 2007. I was so happy when I saw the poor kids had opportunity to participate in such as social events which we organized for them. They had new clothes, good food and Riverkids staff take care them warmly.
When the kids had gone home, we invited the chief of the village where Riverkids house located to have lunch with Riverkids staff including Dian and Alan. While we were having lunch together, the Chief of the village was delighted and expressed appreciation to Diana, the representative of the donors from Singapore who donated their funds the help the kids of his village.
As well as the event at riverkids house, on the 12th April at the Family House we also invited two monks to pray for our staff and the trainees with best wishes of New Year.
The two exciting events had been organized during Khmer New Year, I will not forget to express our thanks to Jimmy, Dale, and others donors who kindly support Riverkids to run smoothly.
