After that, On December 03, 2008 The RJC team and Riverkids organized a Talent Show which received a great response from the children and their parents.
Mr. Sophon, the Executive Director of Riverkids, Cambodia, gave a speech addressing everyone who supported the Talent Show for the parents and children at Phsar Touch Community. "Our purpose is to provide an opportunity for the children to show some of the skills which they have learned with the volunteers and also for them to spend time together with their families. Through these activities, we also hope to raise awareness of the value of children and the value of education."
He also said that exhibiting compassion and a touch of humanitarian service to Cambodia’s children, we thank the 27 students and 2 teachers from Raffles Junior College-RJC for having kindly volunteered their time to interact and educate the children at Riverkids. They have worked with the Cambodian Government, national and international agencies as well as local communities to help children who are suffering due to trafficking, domestic violence, sexual abuse, drug abuse, Aids/HIV, disease, and malnutrition. We believe education can help children gain knowledge, build confidence and self-esteem, as well as improve their physical and mental development. Through education, we can inculcate certain important and fundamental moral values and we believe it is the best solution and a firm step in the move towards preventing the abuse of children and women.
On behalf of Riverkids Foundation, Children and Parents from Riverkids community, Mr. Sophon wishes to express special thanks to the teachers and students from Raffles Junior College, Singapore, for their great kind hearts, as they have contributed in spirit, in physical effort, knowledge and financial donation for Cambodian children.
