Hello! It's been a long while since I last wrote for Riverkids Project.
After a long semester of books and lectures, I finally got myself to start managing the shop in time for the summer.
The Riverkids Etsy Shop is now chock full of dresses perfect for celebrating the onset of summer. These dresses are made by our own Bright Girls and are great for the summer sun because they are mostly made from lightweight cotton. Cotton is great because it absorbs perspiration easily and it dries quickly after a wash.
Part of the sales proceeds goes back to the seamstress (one of our Bright Girls) who made the dress, and the rest of the money goes right back into funding Riverkids Project.
So, do visit the Riverkids Etsy shop for 2 great causes - Riverkids Project and the summer!

RecycloFashion
In October last year, a group of Republic Polytechnic media students contacted us regarding possible collaboration with the Riverkids shop for their final year project.
Their project theme was based on eco-friendly fashion and Bloom's fish-feed bags and items caught the eye of the students.
This resulted in www.recyclofashion.com. An online catalogue of various eco-friendly labels ranging from Terra Plana, XS Project and of course, our very favourite, BLOOM.
Do have a look!

Legends at Fort Canning Sunday Stall
We'll be at Legends at Fort Canning, Main Lobby from 11am to 6pm on Sunday, 6 Jan 08.
Volunteers Tasha, Samantha and Fauzi prepared the items to be sold and their theme was:
Chinese New Year!
You'll see our stall decked out in red and gold and other bright cheery colours and since we're the only stall there, you won't miss us!
So do come on down! (Or up, considering it's up Fort Canning Hill)
:)

Riverkids@Art Market!
We are setting up shop for two days at Fort Canning's Art Market - details here - a two day event which will see not just us and our table of lovely lucious fair trade gifts, bags, scarves, elephants, fishies (in recycled plastic!) and gorgeous roses, but lots of different stalls selling handwork, art and pretty pretty things.
Organised by the National Parks in Singapore, the shops are open from noon to 8pm, making for a lovely weekend afternoon today and Sunday.
So get down!
(In other news - we have a ton of photos and video from the trip, lots to report and thanks to the park's free wifi, more coming up today)

Merry Christmas!
Thank you, thank you and merry christmas and more to everyone whose helped with Riverkids this past year - a number well into three digits now, with amazing support for our very tiny and new Riverkids Shop this holiday, with our Sixty Good People who've helped us keep running every month, all our donors, staff, friends and supporters....
But most of all to the kids themselves.
They stayed in school. They loved their families, and we saw some of their families start to love them better. Some excelled, some struggled, but they all tried, even when trafficked or beaten or abused, they have hope. Hope that they bring every day to Riverkids and share with us.
Dale is headed up to Cambodia 26th-28th this month, as Lyna is away so Dale will do the end-of-month finance and administration. Then January is business-as-usual plus our very first annual report. We'll be sending a copy to all our donors and supporters, and it's basically a chance for us to take a deep breath, assess what we've done and plan how to reach our 2008 goals. That will include finances, which I can roughly say now (thanks to the shop and donations!) gives us as of the 24th of December, enough for five months at US$3,000-US$3,500. We're very cautious about funding and spending for sustainable long-term growth, not a big splash and then we run out!
The other good news is that our charitable registration is in process in Singapore, and we'll be starting our Cambodia-side registration, and well! We've also had some really interesting volunteer opportunities for health, art and counselling.
On a much more personal note, Dale and Jim had an urgent family problem over Christmas, so we've got a backlog from about the 18th of December to respond to, our apologies.
And that, stockings stuffed, children asleep in Cambodia and Singapore, is all the quick news! Thank you!
