Riverkids at NUS for Sex trafficking forum!

On 24th March 2010, Dale Edmonds gave a talk to over 60 invitees on what can be done to fight human trafficking in the Singaporean context as part of the forum: ‘Sex Trafficking: So What and Who Cares?’. The forum centred on explaining issues of trafficking, the role inspired students can play in eliminating trafficking and how every responsible and socially conscious move made contributes positively to reducing the same. Dale elaborated on responsible travel by staying in child safe hotels, buying ethically from fair-trade shop outlets, researching into the causes of sexual exploitation and understanding them better and keeping an eye out even in Singapore for abuse and violence.

Fellow speakers included representatives from UNIFEM Singapore and HOME who elaborated on the causes, trafficking routes and stories from Southeast Asia. Riverkids is ecstatic at the initiative taken by the group of students calling themselves – Traffick Lights! They banded together to shed more light on human trafficking and setting out to play an active role as socially conscious citizens. We wish them success on this admirable new venture!
