New Computer Room

We recently transformed an existing office in the Family house into a computer room for our grade school students and Get Ready girls. One of our goals at Riverkids is to give vulnerable and impoverished children the educational opportunities that will allow them to compete on an equal footing in Cambodian society. Now our students will be able to learn computer skills that they may need when pursuing further education or seeking employment. The computers will also help students learn English. We’ve already installed language software that will allow the students to listen to spoken English and practice their reading and writing skills. Recently, students got to use the new computers for the first time and they’re very excited to start playing with the new programs and learning how to type. Beginning in September, we will have organized computer classes for the grade school students and Get Ready girls.
The computers were donated by Mr. Jackie at INiate, who was introduced to us by Evon, one of the SIA volunteers who visits us annually. We’d like to thank both Jackie and Evon for making the new computer room possible and giving the students at Riverkids access to all the educational possibilities that computers provide.
