Get Ready Girls Graduate

Congratulations to the second class of Riverkids Get Ready Girls who graduated from the program today!

Parents and siblings of the girls joined Riverkids volunteers and staff for a graduation ceremony at the family house. The Steven house kids and the Get Ready girls performed songs in English and Khmer, and Riverkids staff members, Cambodia director Phy Sophon, Singapore Dale Edmonds and the local commune leader all gave speeches congratulating the Get Ready girls on their hard work and encouraging the younger students to follow in their footsteps. The Get Ready Girls received certificates documenting their completion of the course and some small gifts donated by volunteers.

Now that the girls have completed their training at Riverkids, they will transition into employment or further education. Some of the girls are already working as hotel housekeepers, and most of the remaining girls will continue their vocational training at Pour Sourire d’Enfant (PSE), a large French NGO that provides services to at risk youth.

Some members of the previous class of Get Ready Girls came back to Riverkids for the ceremony. These girls are now working at hotels, other NGOs and at Riverkids as kindergarten assistants. Also in attendance were the members of the next class of Get Ready Girls. The 15 new Get Ready Girls will start their classes on Monday.
